Capsules vs. Gummies: Which CBD Is Best For Everyday Wellness?
Posted on January 16, 2019
So you’ve decided to enjoy the many health benefits of CBD on a daily basis. Now you need to decide which particular product is best for daily use and overall wellness. Two of the most popular methods of administering CBD on a daily basis are CBD capsules and CBD gummy bears. Is one product better than the other for you and your circumstances? There are a few things that you need to consider that will help make this an easy choice.
Before we get into this, it’s important to point out that because CBD oil is a natural product and not a precise pharmaceutical medicine, its effects can vary from person to person. So finding the perfect product and dosage takes some personal experimentation. In other words, there are no steadfast rules here, only suggestions.
How Much and When?
To make an educated decision in this matter, you need to look at the reason why you’re using CBD-infused products in the first place, how much you’re taking, and when you should take it.
There are a variety of reasons that people turn to CBD such as to relieve pain, reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and elevate moods. Each of these conditions has its own considerations in regards to formulas, dosage, and delivery method.
However, we’re assuming in this particular article that you’re taking CBD to promote general good health rather than to treat a medical condition, and furthermore, that you’re taking your CBD daily. In this case, we can narrow things down a bit.
First of all, we can assume that you’re taking relatively low dosages. This could be anywhere from a microdose of 5 milligrams or less each day, up to, say, 50 mg a day, give or take. Where you stand in that range will help you determine which products are right for you and how often you should take them.
For example, if you’re only taking 5 mg of CBD each day, then you’re looking at taking a single 5 mg gummy bear. Gummy bears come in a wide ray of potencies from 100 mg per package all the way up to 1500 mg per package. You’ll need to do some math to determine how many gummies (or what portion of one gummy) provides a 5 mg dosage. Simply divide the total CBD content by the number of gummy bears to determine the dose of an individual bear.
If you’re talking 10-50 mg of CBD, then you can start thinking about gelcaps. Our smallest gelcap dosage provides 10 mg of CBD. If that’s your dosage, then take one per day. If your dosage is 20 mg, then take one in the morning and one at night. If your dosage is 40 mg, take one every 4 hours during the day. The point here is if you’re taking more than one per day it’s a good idea to spread them out to maintain a somewhat stable level of CBD in your system.
Of course, you can also use gummy bears in the same way. If you’re taking four gummy bears a day, spread them out throughout the day, and so on.
There is an exception to this rule of breaking up your CBD, and that is if one of your issues is sleeplessness at night or lack of energy and focus during the day. As we said, CBD oil has different effects on different people. It might make you super relaxed. In this case, obviously, it’s best to take the entire dosage before bedtime. And if it perks you up, it’s best to take your CBD in the morning and afternoon.
Is there a difference between gelcaps and gummy bears? If you’re talking strictly about delivery, then there’s really not much of a difference. Both of these products melt very quickly and deliver their entire contents directly to your stomach. However, if you’re considering lifestyle factors such as whether or not you're taking them at home, school, or work, or during a sporting event or workout, etc. If you’re using the product at home, gelcaps are neat and convenient and provide an exact dosage. However, if you’re taking your CBD while you’re out and about, you might rather pack some gummies with your lunch or as a snack.
And if you’re trying to stay away from sugar then obviously you’ll want to choose CBD capsules and stay away from gummy bears.
It’s important to point out here that Meds Biotech CBD products are pharmacist formulated. They are designed to provide a consistent product and predictable effects every time. For this reason, they are made with purified CBD rather than unrefined CBD oil (sometimes called full-spectrum CBD oil).
The reason for this is that unrefined oils can vary greatly in cannabinoid and terpene content from product to product and even batch to batch. The scores of additional cannabinoids and terpenes found in full-spectrum oils each have their own effect. Because of this, there’s no way to determine an exact dosage that will work for you on an ongoing basis as the effects of the product could change from time to time depending on the concentrations of various cannabinoids and terpenes.
Some cannabinoids and terpenes are known to help people relax and reduce stress while others are known to give people more energy and perk them up. Some people are even allergic to certain terpenes.
When using purified CBD, most people find that there is a particular dosage which works best for them. Anything above or below that amount and the effects are reduced. This is called a bell-shaped dosage response. So, as we mentioned, it might take a little experimentation to find that sweet spot.
Our philosophy at Meds Biotech is to provide you with a product that you can count on to deliver an exact amount of CBD every time without the uncertainties which are inherent in unrefined products.
